A child’s Reception Year is their final year of the Early Years Foundation Stage(EYFS).

In the Reception year we ensure  the balance of learning through play, which the children have experienced in the Nursery setting, while introducing a more structured learning experience in preparation for Year 1.

Our curriculum is delivered through a completely topic focused approach, with the children’s interests very much included in our activities. We are fortunate to benefit from specialist teachers in Music and PE.

Our learning environment is made up of 2 large open-plan rooms which feature, for the academic lessons, a reading area, a discussion area, a maths and literacy area and everything required for teacher and adult-led learning activities. For the creative child-led activities we have role-play, exploration and open-ended activities linked to our topics, featuring a creative table, dressing up area, ICT area, self-selecting activities, small world, writing area and construction activities.

Our designated outdoor area accessible from the classroom features a children’s garden.

Reception is a very exciting year due to the great leaps that children make in all areas of learning. Children of this age are very curious and love to learn and we do everything we can to encourage and support them during this time.
